Doubtless, most of you have heard the news, Barak Obama has become the first sitting President of the United States to endorse same sex marriage. His rationale leaned heavily on Jesus. How should we, the faith family of Windham Baptist Church respond to this?
We should lovingly, yet truthfully say, “No, Mr. President, you are wrong.” Jesus and same-sex marriage cannot walk together.
Wrong because God’s word presents a consistent standard for marriage and human sexuality. Not only is God’s design for marriage (between a woman and a man in covenant) established in the first two chapters of the Bible (Gen. 2.18-25 and Matt. 19:4-6), but homosexuality and lesbianism are presented as sin throughout the whole of the text, not only in the Old Testament (Gen. 19.1-11; Lev. 18:22; Rom. 1:26-27; 1 Tim. 1:8-10).
